LoRaWAN network provider

Avelon Cloud currently supports the following LoRaWAN network providers with which LoRaWAN gateways can communicate:

The Things Network

The Things Network (TTN) is a global LPWAN Internet of Things network provided by the community on a voluntary basis. It covers large areas with several thousand LoRaWAN gateways in about 97 countries. The use of TTN is free of charge and gateways can be provided and integrated by any interested person as needed if coverage in the target area is not yet sufficient.

Swisscom LPN

The Swisscom Low Power Network (LPN) is a complementary LoRaWAN network operated by Swisscom. The network is only available in Switzerland and is subject to a charge, but coverage in conurbations is comparatively dense.

Beetle

As an alternative to the public LoRaWAN network providers, the Beetle can also be configured as a LoRaWAN server. LoRaWAN gateways send the data directly to the Beetle, which then forwards the packets to Avelon Cloud (or an Alcedo Inhouse server).

Configuring the LoRaWAN network provider

To change the LoRaWAN network provider of an IoT device, first select the relevant IoT device in the device management area. Then click on More at the top right of the device page and then on Configure LoRaWAN Network Provider.

Then select the desired LoRaWAN network provider in the dropdown. If you have selected a Beetle as the network provider, you can also select whether surrogate BACnet objects should be created automatically. Activate this option to be able to read the IoT data points directly in your BACnet control system. Confirm the change with OK.
