Connectivity
The Connectivity card displays the current connection status of the Beetle.
Click on Details to see more details about the individual connection interfaces. Click on Configure to change the hostname of the Beetle. Click on Configure to configure the Avelon Sever to which the Beetle should connect. To connect to Avelon Cloud, select Avelon Cloud from the dropdown and click OK.
Note that the Beetle needs to be able to communicate with Avelon Cloud (avelon.cloud) to operate properly. To connect to an Alcedo Inhouse system, select Alcedo Inhouse from the dropdown, then enter the hostname or IP address of the server, and click OK.
Note that the Beetle needs to be able to communicate with the Alcedo Inhouse server to operate properly. In the first step, you can specify whether you want the Beetle to connect to the server via the LAN interface, the WAN interface, or via the integrated GSM module. If the local controllers and the Internet are accessible from the same network, you usually select the LAN option. If there is a technical network on site in which controllers are configured, but which itself has no connection to other networks (especially the Internet or Alcedo Inhouse, respectively), please proceed as follows: If it is possible to physically connect the Beetle to both networks, and both networks have a non-overlapping network configuration, then you can use both connections on the Beetle: Connect the technical network to the LAN port. Connect the network with access to the Avelon Cloud or Alcedo Inhouse server to the WAN port. Select WAN as your connection to the server, and configure the LAN and WAN IP addresses of the Beetle accordingly. Otherwise, use the GSM module instead of the WAN connection to connect the Beetle to the Internet.
In this case, select the option Mobile Network. You can also choose to use WAN by default, but have the Beetle fall back to the GSM modem when WAN is temporarily not available.
In this case, select the option WAN with fallback to mobile network. LAN If you selected LAN in the previous step, you can now configure the LAN interface: LAN setting Description Mode Static or DHCP (automatic) IP address IP address of the LAN interface Subnet mask Subnet mask of the LAN interface Gateway IP address of the LAN interface MAC address MAC address of the LAN interface DNS server 1 Address of the primary DNS server DNS server 2 Address of the secondary DNS server Click on Configure below the LAN settings to configure them.
You can either enable DHCP to obtain an automatic IP address or provide a manual IP address, subnet mask and gateway address. Click on Configure below the DNS servers to configure them.
If you enabled DHCP in the LAN settings, you can toggle the Manual option to enter manual DNS entries if necessary.
Otherwise, they will be obtained via DHCP. WAN If you selected WAN in the previous step, you can now configure the WAN interface.
The WAN connection essentially acts as a secondary LAN connection. WAN setting Description Mode Static or DHCP (automatic) IP address IP address of the WAN interface Subnet mask Subnet mask of the WAN interface Gateway IP address of the WAN interface MAC address MAC address of the WAN interface DNS server 1 Address of the primary DNS server DNS server 2 Address of the secondary DNS server Click on Configure below the WAN settings to configure them.

If you enabled DHCP in the WAN settings, you can toggle the Manual option to enter manual DNS entries if necessary.
Otherwise, they will be obtained via DHCP. Mobile network If you selected Mobile network or WAN with fallback to mobile network in the previous step, you can configure the modem. Note If the SIM card is locked, you will be asked to enter the correct 4-digit PIN to unlock the card.
If the PIN is entered incorrectly three times, the card must be unlocked with the 8-digit PUK.
At the same time you can then assign a new PIN to the card.
Any modem or network errors are displayed in coded form (see section GSM status errors). Setting Description Preset Select a predefined configuration if your mobile operator is in the list. Otherwise, you can select the “User-defined” option to enter custom parameters. APN URL of the access point (Access Point Name) Login Login Password Password PIN Personal identification number The illustration shows you which settings are set for which interface.
Check them and change any incorrect settings. Click Apply changes to save the changes.
The new settings should take effect within 2-3 minutes.
If there are connectivity errors, you can repeat the steps above and adapt the settings. The current connection status is indicated by two separate status icons.
Communication between the Beetle and Avelon Cloud only works properly if both icons are green.
However, an Internet connection is not required for in-house installations. Setting Description Internet Shows whether the Beetle is currently connected to the Internet. Avelon Server Shows whether the Beetle currently has a connection to the Avelon server. If you have configured an Internet connection via WAN connection or mobile network, the Beetle can serve as a router between the technical network connected to the LAN port and the Internet.
This allows devices connected to the technical network to temporarily gain access to the Internet.
This is particularly useful during installation or configuration of the system. To enable or disable routing from LAN to WAN (or mobile network), click the Routing disabled/enabled button.
The current routing status is toggled and the status display is updated accordingly. See remote access. If the Beetle is in the same subnet as your PC, you can connect to it by opening the following URL in any web browser: where The Bonjour service is running on the Beetle and will try to locate the IP address of the Beetle for you. If the URL in the section above doesn’t work, try the following steps: Set the network settings of your computer to the following values: Fixed IP address: Netmask: Connect your computer with an Ethernet cable to the WAN port of the Beetle. Enter the following IP address in the address bar of your web browser: If this is not working either, connect a monitor and keyboard to the running Beetle.
The network settings are then displayed on screen.
