Hardware installation
This chapter provides an overview of the product and serves as a quick introduction to installing and commissioning the Beetle.
Warning
This chapter refers to hardware Beetles only. Virtual Beetles require no hardware installation.
Note on installation
The Beetle is preconfigured for quick plug & go commissioning without a notebook.
Please always disconnect the Beetle from the power supply when carrying out installations. Do not apply electrostatic charges to the terminals of the Beetle. The installation must be carried out in accordance with the rules and regulations applicable to the installation site.
The installation location of the Beetle and its accessories should be selected with the following points in mind:
Observe the ambient conditions according to the technical data.
Take into account the cable lengths of accessories, such as USB cables, antenna cables, sensor cables, etc.
Avoid cable extensions for high-impedance measurement signals, for example certain temperature sensors.
Ensure that the necessary infrastructure, e.g. Internet connection, is close by.
In order to ensure the full functionality of the device, all connections must be made in accordance with professional standards and the contacts have to be permanent. A telephone line or GPRS radio connection must be provided for connection to Avelon Cloud.
Please only use components that have been delivered or correspond to the specifications mentioned and pay particular attention to the following instructions:
The output voltage of the switching outputs is always equal to the supply voltage of the device.
Each switching output is designed for an output current of 400 mA.
The switching outputs are open collectors and are not short-circuit proof.
The device is a class A device. This device can cause radio interference in the living area; In this case the operator may be required to take appropriate measures.
Connection of the supply voltage
The Beetle is supplied with power via the special plug included in the package. The operating voltage must be connected with the correct polarity, otherwise the device may be damaged.
Beetle T5 | Beetle T6 | |
---|---|---|
Power supply | 9 ~ 32 V DC | 9 ~ 24 V DC |
Maximum power consumption | 35 VA | 36 VA |
Warning
The Beetle may only be operated on power supplies that have an internal current limit of 1 A. Alternatively, an external fuse with a tripping value of 1 A (fast) must be connected in the device supply line.
Warning
The power supply of the device must be connected to the protective earth (functional earthing).
Please also note the following important information:
The Beetle is intended for use with low voltage. The specified maximum operating voltage must never be exceeded (even for a short time), otherwise the device will be destroyed.
A sufficient distance from interference sources (switching power supplies, converters, motors) must be maintained to avoid malfunctions.
