Chart with data point categories

The chart type Chart with data point categories allows you to compare aggregated values of data points (e.g. the average monthly energy consumption). Comparisons between different time periods of the same data point and between different data points are possible.

The x-axis shows one category per data point. Different comparison periods or aggregations are each represented with a separate plot.

A chart with two different data points and a total of 5 different aggregation functions or time periods

To set up a chart with data point categories, proceed as follows:

  1. Create a new plot by clicking the Add Plot icon. Set the desired data function and time period.

  2. Drag a data point from the data point gallery to the empty space below the heading Data Points (Categories).

  3. If measurement data is available for the data point, a preview of the aggregation will be displayed at the top.

  4. You can repeat the first and second steps as often as you want, in order to create additional plots (that is, different aggregation functions or time periods) or to include additional data points in the comparison.

Plots vs. data points

Unlike most other chart types, plots and data points in this chart are independent of each other. The number of values displayed in the chart equals the result of multiplying the number of plots by the number of data points. Exactly one aggregated value is calculated and displayed per plot and data point.
