Alarm blacklisting

Alarm sources which send alarms too frequently will be blacklisted until the rate drops back to an acceptable level. While an alarm source is on the blacklist, all alarms for that specific source are discarded without further notice.

Usually, the alarm source corresponds to a data point. However, the system can be configured such that a data point collects alarms from multiple alarm sources (e.g. if the same data point is assigned to multiple alertings). In that case, only the specific alarm source that sends too many alarms is blacklisted, and other alarm sources for the same data point will still work.

For each alarm source, every triggered alarm will be counted. If this counter reaches 10, the alarm source will be blacklisted and subsequent alarms from that alarm source will be discarded. A corresponding comment will be added to the currently open alarm ticket of that alarm source.

If the alarm source doesn’t trigger an alarm for 120 seconds, the alarm counter is reset. If the alarm source was blacklisted, it will be removed from the blacklist, and a corresponding comment will be added to the currently open alarm ticket of that alarm source.

Note that the limits mentioned above apply to Avelon Cloud. On Alcedo Inhouse systems, these values can be reconfigured by Avelon support upon request.
